As a follow up to our music industry day, pupils were invited to submit entries to our Young Composers in Halton event.
A “Sound Advice” day was run at the CLC where pupils from all schools were able to access and interview representatives from all areas of the music industry. Pupils were able to participate in workshops to introduce them to music and recording technologies. The competition was structured so that sessions were bookable where the CLCs resources and expertise could be used to develop their compositions.
Hundreds of hopefuls, two eagle-eyed advisors and one self-made CLC Manager. Yes it’s the project that pits Halton’s hungriest brains against each other to see which one is worthy of a six-figure salary* and the chance to become Widnes CLC’s apprentice.
An Open Mind Template was created that used the lines of the poem “Blessing” by Imtiaz Dharkar as branches. Pupils explored the poem by adding images to the branches and then explaining the significance of their (and the poet’s) choices on sub-branches. They then recoloured branches and used the branch connection tool to link lines, images and techniques and explained these links on sub-branches. Finally, pupils attached the BBC film version of the poem and used sub-branches to explain and illustrate their own film of the poem.
The aim of the project was to create a movie about the historic day man first walked on the moon. Another aim was to compose a piece of music using Garageband software to reflect the space theme.
The aim of the project was for the pupils to use iMovie software to edit and create a Year 6 leavers’ DVD using the video footage that they had previously captured using the CLC’s Samsonite cases that had been loaned to the school.
